Dark Matter is the tenth episode of Nikita, and the tenth episode of the first season. It premiered to American audiences on December 2, 2010 at 2.30 million viewers.

Synopsis[]

Owen reappears, speaking to Nikita about an information leak which connects the murder of a Chilean political candidate and the US government. The assassination was carried out by Division, but the CIA is desperate to clean up the mess. Owen hopes that with the leak, he'll be able to ferret out the Division tech who is in charge of the black boxes. If he finds that agent, then he can locate the rest of the boxes and destroy them. Owen asks for Nikita's help, and she agrees.

Percy's contact in the CIA, John, offers up a perfect scapegoat: an agent named Ryan Fletcher who has started to investigate Division's underhanded tactics. Nikita and Owen travel to Chile in order to stop Division from carrying out their plan, but they run into a snag. Ryan has already been captured by Chilean mercenaries who are seeking vengeance for the murder. Nikita and Owen rescue Ryan, but before they can leave the country, Michael and a team of Division agents swoop in and capture them. Nikita tells Ryan that his suspicions about Division are true, and offers up the flash drive as evidence if he agrees to let her and Owen go. Ryan agrees and the pair escape custody.

Percy digs up a new scapegoat for the Chilean incident, and it's John, his contact in the CIA. John is later found dead with an empty bottle of pills next to him. Meanwhile, Percy collaborates with Birkoff and the tech in charge of the black boxes to upgrade the systems. Now they'll be able to upload information to the boxes wirelessly versus having to transfer the data through flash drives. For his trouble, the tech is murdered, and Birkoff is put in charge.

Trivia[]

Although credited, Ashton Holmes (Thom) and Melinda Clarke (Amanda) do not appear in this episode.

Goofs and Errors

  • Nikita uses the 'ping' command on the IP address she's given by Alex. While running this command will show connectivity, it does not show any information about the owner of the server or its location
  • When Alex first informs Nikita of Division's plan, she gives the IP address 552.2331.452.02. This is an impossible IP address, since each segment's highest value can only be 255.
